The Grey Partridge is also known as the English Partridge, Hungarian Partridge or the Hun. It is part of the Pheasant family. This bird was introduced as a game bird for hunting purposes. It is however sadly on the decline.
This is the largest member of the finch family living in the UK. It has a massive bill and is quite distinctive. Always shy and difficult to see the Hawfinch has become less common in recent years.
House Martin is also known as the Common House Martin or the Northern House Martin. It is a migratory bird that breeds in Europe, North Africa and Asia wintering in Africa and Asia.
The House Sparrow deserves its name as it is often nests in buildings. These habits and the ability to exploit a wide variety of foods have resulted in the worldwide spread of the species. However the lack of holes in buildings for nesting and poor availability of insects on which they feed their young has resulted in a declining population in some areas of the UK.
The Jackdaw is a member of the crow family. They tend to hop and strut when on the ground. Will sit on the back of cattle and sheep and remove ticks from their coats. They like caterpillar, bugs, insects, spiders and will scavenge from household refuse tips and dustbins. Wherever food is discarded they are likely to be found. They fly together and can be seen on church steeples roof tops tree tops and chimneys.
