The Jay is the most colourful member of the crow family. They are a shy bird and shy away from humans, in fact they are often difficult to see as they dislike moving away from woodland and cover. Once the Jay has mated it remains with its mate for life. Jays are very partial to acorns and tend to hide them away.
This small bird was once kept in cages due to its beautiful singing tones. The Linnet is now in decline in numbers.
The Long-tailed Tit is easily recognised as its tail is longer than its body. It is a very easy bird to identify, due to its colouring and its very long tail.
This bird has few friends due to its nature to scavenge and be very aggressive and have a very arrogant nature. It is predatory and is known to destroy pests.
A less common member of the tit family that has seen a sharp decline in recent years. They can often be found clinging to the peanut feeder in the garden. Will nest in nest boxes if they are near to woodland, this being their natural habitat. These birds are territorial and stay with their young in the same vicinity.
