Suitable Habitat
Food alone is insufficient to attract birds to your garden
Most garden birds are essentially woodland birds, therefore they are attracted to plenty of overhanging trees and vegetation, to provide cover, nesting sites and materials. When providing suitable vegetation it is important to consider the following:
- provide a diversity of plant and tree species, to attract a variety of bird species
- consider plants that produce berries, seeds and fruits, which are natural food sources
- plant native trees and shrubs
- allow a section of your garden to grow wild, even dead trees provide nesting sites and materials for bird
