Mealworms are undoubtedly the most popular form of live bird food for wild birds. We advise feeding live mealworms in the spring. They are not only invaluable to garden birds but feeding live mealworms can make very entertaining garden watching. We would also advise that you feed your live food in a specific feeder for live food.

Mealworms

Our best selling live food! Many species go mad for these live larvae including Robins, Blackbirds, sparrows and tits. They are ideal for feeding in gardens and are made up of over 48% protein and 40% fat and have a high percentage of moisture which is vital for nestlings. They come with their own food, but you can add bran or old newspaper as an extra food source.

Dried Mealworms

A great source of protein without the wriggle! Our dried mealworms have been a real hit since we introduced them. They offer all the same fat and protein as their live equivalent but freeze-dried. They can be fed on their own or are ideal added to mixes. We recommend that they are soaked in water prior to feeding in the breeding season.

Mini Mealworms

These are young mealworms not yet fully frown, and are often slightly easier for nestlings to digest.

Waxworms

Wax worms are the larvae of the wax moth and are extremely high in fat and protein. They are soft-bodied and extremely easy to digest making them a real favourite of many species. They do not need to be fed and are unable to mature into wax moths.

Kernel Caged Live Food Feeder
