Bird feeders
There are many different types of bird feeder to match different types of bird food, and these include bird feeders for peanuts, seed and seed mixes, niger seed, suet blocks and fat balls, plus live foods and soft foods. Bird feeders also come in a range of different sizes, plus different levels of quality with both plastic and metal fittings.
Not all bird feeders are suitable for all garden birds, with some ground feeding species such as Blackbird and Dunnock not being able to cling to the perches. However, these species can be catered for by also providing a Ground Feeding Tray, or live food and soft food feeder.
In addition, seed feeders with circular perches help species such as Robin and Chaffinch more easily land and perch on them. And if you have a seed feeder with normal straight perches, check out our special Perch Rings which might be suitable to slide over them.
Feeding different bird species
Hanging seed feeders are suitable for all straight seeds and seed mixes with the exception of niger, and for this seed a special bird feeder is needed which ensures the niger doesn’t flow out of the ports.
Then there are mesh peanut feeders, live food and soft food feeders, cage feeders to hold fat balls and suet bocks, plus squirrel-proof versions for most of these bird feeders. As for examples of bird species which use the different feeders, here is a quick guide:
So by having at least one of each type of bird feeder in your garden, you will greatly increase the range of bird species you attract.
Keeping bird feeders clean
Whatever type of bird feeders you use, keeping them clean is absolutely essential to the health and wellbeing of your garden birds. This is because dirty bird feeders can transmit disease from bird to bird, and this is especially true of seed feeders. So clean them regularly using our range of special products, and your gardens birds will be able to feed safely.
