Every garden should have a bird table

A bird table has long been a must for many gardens in the UK. In fact before the wealth of different bird feeders and specialist foods came along, a bird table, and with kitchen scraps put on it, was the only way many people fed their garden birds.

Of course, things have changed and feeding birds has become rather more sophisticated, but a good, and solid wooden bird table still has its place in the garden.

Why keeping wooden bird tables clean is essential

If there's one slight downside of a bird table, though, it's the need to keep it clean to prevent infectious birds becoming infected and diseases being passed to birds. Keeping feeders clean is also important, but the flat nature of a bird table and the fact that the core material is wood rather than plastic, means the surface is susceptible to holding germs.

However, a regular clean - perhaps once a week - using one of our special and easy-to-use disinfectant products will ensure you have nothing to worry about.

Another factor which helps keep a wooden bird table clean and hygienic is not overloading it with food. So never putting more on it than your birds can eat in a day, plus only using husk-free seeds and husk-free seed mixes will also really help.

Which birds will use wooden bird tables?

Virtually all garden birds will happily feed on a wooden bird tables, and the bigger major factor determining which birds are attracted is the sort of food you put out. Sunflower hearts, husk-free mixes and suet pellets are all good, and should attract species you'd normally see on a hanging feeder such as Greenfinches and Blue Tits, plus ground feeders like Robins and Blackbirds.
