Very well packaged and a good size for feeding Niger seed. Still waiting for the birds to spot the Niger seed feeder, though the Nut Hatch, Blue Tits and Sparrows are absolutely scoffing all the nuts and seeds I bought in the mixed selection!

This is a great hit with the goldfinches, they took to this like proverbials. They had bhad a small yellow feeder, but the bottom fell out. They seem to like the ability to sit in this and munch on the seed in the tray. Why bother to perch when you can sit with seed up to your ...

Niger seed is a specialist feed which only three species of bird are likely to be attracted by: Goldfinch, Siskin and, if you’re very fortunate, Redpoll. Goldfinch are fairly common garden birds, with Siskin being common in certain areas only. Therefore testing out a small low budget plastic niger seed feeder like this one before committing to a larger metal one, makes a lot of sense. An important point to note about this type of niger seed feeder which comes complete with a tray, is that the seed husk waste which falls onto the tray must be cleaned off regularly and not allowed to build up. This is important because a build up of waste can lead to the formation of harmful bacteria, with this potentially resulting in Salmonella poisoning which is fatal to birds.
