Berks, Bucks and Oxon Wildlife Trust
Berks, Bucks and Oxon Wildlife Trust (BBOWT) is the largest organisation concerned with all aspects of wildlife conservation in our three counties.
We look after more than 80 nature reserves and work beyond our reserves to create a network for wildlife. Imagine a journey through farmland with hedgerows, woodland, rivers with more natural floodplain habitats, along road verges managed for wild flowers, past green roofs and nature on people’s doorsteps. This is our vision for our three counties and thanks to our generous supporters we’re working hard to make this reality.
We also inspire the next generation to care for wildlife through education and events; speak up for wildlife by meeting local councillors and politicians; and help others to improve their own land for wildlife.
We are one of 46 similar Wildlife Trusts covering the UK, which come together to form The Wildlife Trusts movement.
OUR WORK WITH THE WILDLIFE TRUST
The wildlife of Berks, Bucks and Oxon is very special. Why not visit one of our reserves and see for yourself? College Lake in Bucks is one of the best places for water birds. There are bird hides for a close up look at the wildlife, a café for a bite to eat, and friendly staff and volunteers on hand to answer any questions you have.
“I’ve had a life-long love of birds, which is one reason I’m so proud of our partnership with Vine House Farm. Watching garden birds can be the start of people’s love for wildlife. Knowing that our partnership helps BBOWT to do even more for our local wildlife, while helping our supporters look after their garden birds is so important to me.”
The support from Vine House Farm helps us to manage our own nature reserves for birds, providing somewhere safe for them to breed and raise the next generation at a time when they need more help than ever.
We’re able to carefully manage our hedgerows and farmland to help birds like yellowhammers and linnets. Vine House Farm’s support helps us to clear scrub on our heathland reserves for endangered ground-nesting birds like nightjars. We can look after more of our wetland reserves where birds like lapwings and oystercatchers can raise their families in safety.
As more and more land in the wider countryside is threatened with development and intensification of agriculture, our nature reserves become precious havens for wildlife. Thanks to Vine House Farm’s support we’re able to look after these places so that they remain somewhere safe for wildlife to thrive.
