Hampshire & Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust has been working for almost 60 years to protect local wildlife and inspire people to love and cherish it just as much as we do.
We look after over 50 nature reserves across the two counties and we also work with others to help increase the area of land managed with wildlife in mind.
We are passionate about connecting people to their local wildlife, whether that is the birds in their back garden, plants and insect life at a local greenspace or introducing them to our wonderful nature reserves.
Right now, nature is struggling and wildlife is being lost. We have a vision where more people are on nature’s side and where the habitats and species that call our county’s home are thriving!
“Providing food, water and shelter for birds in your back garden, balcony or even on a window feeder is so rewarding. Buying bird food through Vine House Farm also supports the wider work of the Trust, so you can be safe in the knowledge that you are benefitting wildlife far beyond your garden gate– it’s a win, win, win!”
Income like this helps to ensure we can keep our nature reserves in the best possible condition for wildlife; in 2019 Farlington Marshes, near Portsmouth, saw numbers of lapwing, redshank and avocet at their highest for 20 years.
Funds also allow us to take on ambitious projects to improve conditions for wildlife and restore nature in the wider landscape. Over the past few years, we have been working together with the charity Butterfly Conservation, to reintroduce the marsh fritillary butterfly to its former haunts in north Hampshire.
It is only through the support of our members and donors that we are able to celebrate successes such as these, to continue to protect the wildlife and wild places of Hampshire
