A nest box will generally be readily taken by either Blue tits or Great tits, where there’s a shortage of suitable nesting sites nearby. With a 32mm entrance hole, it’s typically the more dominant Great tit which will secure the nest box.
As with any songbird nest box, it’s important that it is positioned on a tree, wall or tall fence, out of direct sunlight in the middle of the day as this would cause too much heat inside and potentially kill the young birds. Therefore positioning the nest box on an east or north-east facing aspect is best. A height from the ground of at least two metres should be the aim.
