Description

Made by renowned manufacturer Schwegler, these woodcrete nest boxes are high quality products. Made from a mix of wood and concrete means the woodcrete nest boxes maintain a more stable temperature throughout the breeding season; often an important aspect of brood survival. The woodcrete material also means the nest box does not rot and deteriorate over time in the way a timber nest box could.

Woodcrete Bird Boxes are available with a 26mm hole for Blue tits, a 32mm hole suitable for Great tits and House Sparrows, and open fronted for a variety of species such as Robin and Wren. Woodcrete Nest Boxes come with a fantastic 25 year guarantee against rot, weather and natural damage, making them excellent value for money products.

I already have purchased, over the years, this Woodcrete Nest Box, and decided to treat my garden birds to a new one, as all of the existing boxes (3) were used during 2022. All well packed into a box and arrived safely.

I already have woodcrete nestboxes and they are much preferred to wooden boxes by the bluetits in my garden. Hopefully this one will be as popular.

I already own one of these boxes which is used every year, When I saw a wren looking twice in an old box, I decided to give the birds the chance of a cosy new one.

Rather heavy, didn't like the drab brown colour, had to paint it forest green. Now waiting for the birds approval.

Nest boxes for birds are an established and proven way to increase the breeding success of a wide range of species. This isn’t just through providing birds with a convenient nest site when natural options like a hole in a tree are in short supply, but also helping them get through the winter in order that they can breed - and this through the nest box being used as a safe and warm place to spend cold nights. Traditional timber nest boxes are fine, but have the disadvantage of the wood deteriorating over time, plus its more prone to creating temperature variation inside the nest box. Woodcrete solves both these issues, with the mix of concrete and wood fibre ensuring both a very long life for the product and a more even temperature inside the box. The latter point is relevant because it can have a positive impact on the survival rates of the young and developing birds inside.
Putting up Woodcrete Nest Boxes in your garden with different size entrance holes plus the option of the open-fronted nest box, will increase the mix of species likely to use them. For example, the bird nest box with the 26mm hole will attract Blue tits, whereas the box with the 32mm hole is more likely to be used by Great tits. Crucially, remember to clean out the nest box completely at the end of each breeding season, because if the old one is left in, then birds will not use the box the following season.
