Calci worms are the larvae of the Black soldier fly. Calci is short for calcium, with the name chosen because these dried worms contain around 50 times more calcium than most other invertebrates such as mealworms.

The product is supplied in an eco friendly paper bag, unlike some other suppliers who use plastic. The dried worms were in good condition, not smashed up. Calci worms are better than meal worms for birds. Delivery was on time. Excellent service from Vine House House.

They attract a number of visitors as soon as they are put out and are far more convenient than live meal worms. They are also said to be more nutritious than meal worms. 10 out ov 10

For years we had no starlings in our garden. Then we found dried worms, and the starlings found us! They are greedy but very entertaining, and love the worms.

The calci worms are larger and fatter than the mealworms: I mix them in with the sunflower hearts and they seem most popular both on the bird tables and on the ground.

First time I have tried these, birds seem to like them. Excellent service from Vine House Farm as usual.

The birds in our garden couldnt get enough of these worms they were fighting to get at them! Will certainly be ordering some more.

I wasn't sure if our garden birds would take to them, as they have been fed mealworms before, but I needn't have worried! After a day or two, the worms are now being hoovered up by several different species - starlings, blackbirds and robins - as soon as I put them out (mixed in with seeds).

Speedy delivery and the birds seem to like them!

Calci worms are the larvae stage of the Black soldier fly, with the word calci coming from calcium which this bird and hedgehog food is rich in. calci worms contain around 50 times more calcium than dried mealworms, which makes them perfect for hedgehogs which need the calcium for bone development.
Calci worms are also fairly high in protein, albeit not as much as mealworms - they do though contain more fat than mealworms.Softbill species, such as Blackbirds, Robins and Starlings readily eat calci worms.
Before feeding calci worms to either birds or hedgehogs, it’s best to soak them in cold clean water for around 30 minutes. This allows the dried worms to absorb some of the water, which in turn then means that the birds and hedgehogs get a degree of hydration from them. This is especially important during the spring when birds might feed the calci worms to nestlings and fledglings, as without fluids there is a risk to the health and even survival of the young birds.
To feed calci worms to hedgehogs and birds, they can be placed in a shallow dish on the ground or just directly on the ground – e.g. a lawn or patio.
