How should I feed premium seed mixes to birds

Vine House Farm's premium bird seed mix is suitable for seed feeders, bird tables and ground feeders. Bird seed mixes can be fed all year round. Place them in bird feeders, or scatter on bird tables during any season to attract wild birds into your garden. It is worth bearing in mind that during high rainfall months, seed mixes can become sticky when wet. This causes no problem for birds that feed on them. However, wet seeds can clog certain bird feeders, like ground feeders. To avoid this, choose a ground seed bird feeder that has a cover.

Does your premium bird seed mix contain mealworms?

Our premium seed mix does not contain mealworms. However, we sell a specially-made seed mix with dried mealworms for those that want to include these in their bird feeders. This mix is ideal for attracting ground-feeding birds like Robins, which love worms and other invertebrates. Mealworms are a popular choice of food because they contain key nutrients for birds, such as protein and fats.

Premium vs non-premium: what is the difference?

We stock a range of seed mixes to suit your bird feeding needs. Many of our premium seed bird food mixes and bird seed mixes are made using seeds we grow onsite. The key difference between the two is in the type of seeds we include in the mixes, and whether these seeds are whole or de-husked. Our premium seed mix also contains no wheat. The main benefit of choosing a premium seed blend for your bird feed collection is that it includes sunflower hearts. These attract birds that would not be able to feed on whole seeds -- primarily soft-bill birds such as blackbirds. Premium wild bird food is also a great no waste option for people who want to avoid the discarded husks being left in their gardens, which occurs with other straight seeds and seed mixes that include whole seeds.

The mix includes sunflower hearts, white millet, red millet, canary seed, oil seed rape, wheat and kibbled maize, with many of the wild bird seed mix ingredients grown here at Vine House Farm - a conservation award-winning farm! Orders received by 3pm Monday to Friday will be dispatched via DHL on a no signature delivery service; simply advise us where to leave your bags. We don't deliver on Saturdays, Sundays or Bank Holidays.

Some orders less than 1kg in weight will come by Royal Mail.

Orders for Live Mealworms are sent directly from our supplier via Royal Mail. They are dispatched the same day if orders are received by 12pm Mon-Thurs; no orders are dispatched on a Friday. Please allow four working days for orders to arrive.

We now deliver to all of mainland UK with no extra delivery charge. Please note that some postcode areas that are classed as Scottish Islands and Highlands may take 2-3 working days to arrive. For deliveries outside of these areas a £10 charge will be applied.
