High Energy Mix

Our High Energy Mix bird food is suitable for hanging seed feeders or use a ground tray. Feed this seed mix all year round to attract a variety of birds into your garden, and provide important nutrition during every season.

Our high-quality seed mixes for wild birds contain a mixture of nutritious ingredients which contain protein and natural fats. The best high-energy wild bird seed mixes contain sunflower seeds and peanut granules, which are both ideal sources of energy which are consumed by many species of birds. Smaller seeds, such as millet, appeal to birds such as House and Tree sparrows, Dunnocks, Collared doves and some species of finch. To also attract softbill species like Blackbird and Robin, it’s important to use a husk-free mix like this one, as these birds can’t remove husks from seeds like black sunflower.

While suet products (including Super Suet Fat Balls, Suet Pellets and Suet Blocks) remain popular, high-energy choices of bird food during winter, our High Energy Mix is also a great addition during cold weather. It contains chopped peanuts and black sunflower seeds - great examples of high-energy food sources for birds. Even better, choose a husk-free mix from here which includes sunflower hearts rather than black sunflower seeds, as this means species like Robin and Blackbird can also feed on it.

Species of birds that will eat our High Energy Mix include:

Blue tit, Coal tit, Great tit, Chaffinch, Greenfinch, Goldfinch, House sparrow, Tree sparrow and Collared dove.

You should opt for a high quality low-waste mix, such as our Won't Grow Mix or Ultimate Energy Mix with Suet. These contain seeds, like sunflower hearts (the de-husked version of black sunflower seed), which are favoured by many birds and therefore are quickly eaten. Note that the main reason for seeds and grains that sprout below feeders, is that birds turf them out rather than eating them because they’re either not suitable or are just poor quality. This is another reason to always avoid the type of cheap bird food mixes available in general stores, supermarkets and garden centres.
