Our Ground Mix is the ideal food for ground feeding birds such as Robin and Blackbird, and is packed with sultanas, rolled oats, sunflower hearts, berry suet pellets, chopped peanuts, naked oats, pinhead oats and kibbled maize. This mix can be fed from a bird table, ground tray or directly on the ground.

Most ground feeding songbirds are also known as softbill species, with a trait all these birds share being that they can’t remove the husks from seeds. Therefore our Ground Mix is made up of foods which are either soft or have had the husk removed - e.g. the sunflower heart chips.

Bird Table

Orders received by 3pm Monday to Friday will be dispatched via DHL on a no signature delivery service; simply advise us where to leave your bags. We don't deliver on Saturdays, Sundays or Bank Holidays.

Some orders less than 1kg in weight will come by Royal Mail.

Orders for Live Mealworms are sent directly from our supplier via Royal Mail. They are dispatched the same day if orders are received by 12pm Mon-Thurs; no orders are dispatched on a Friday. Please allow four working days for orders to arrive.

If you have not received your order within seven working days please contact us on 01775 630208.

We now deliver to all of mainland UK with no extra delivery charge. Please note that some postcode areas that are classed as Scottish Islands and Highlands may take 2-3 working days to arrive. For deliveries outside of these areas a £10 charge will be applied. Postcode areas affected include HS, IV41 – IV49, IV51, IV55 and IV56, KA27 and KA28, KW15 to KW17, PA20, PA41 to PA49, PA60 to PA78, PH42 to PH44, ZE, Isle of Man

More Information Frequently Asked Questions

With different families and species of garden birds favouring not just different foods but also different ways of feeding, it’s important to take both into account when choosing different bird foods and feeder options. A good example is ground feeding species of birds, with some of these being classed as softbills. As the name might suggest, these birds don’t have the ability to crack open seed husks in the way, for example, species of finch and tit can.

From the thrush family, Blackbirds and Song thrushes are both softbills, and these are two of the species that our Ground Mix is aimed at. Other species which will eat at least some of the ingredients in our Ground Mix are Robins, Dunnocks and Starlings.

To suit the feeding habits of these birds, Ground Mix should be fed on a ground feeder, a bird table or directly on the ground. For the bird table, although this is obviously well off the ground, the flat surface will be viewed in much the same way by birds as the ground - the important point being that they don’t have to cling on to anything to feed.
