Filled with a suet-based fat mix which also includes seeds, Coconut Halves were the first product of this type to come onto the market many years ago, and well ahead of fat balls, blocks and pellets. In some ways, the early arrival of the Coconut Half product onto the market was ahead of its time, as its obvious use of a waste product – so the shell of a coconut – would now be seen as a very environmentally-friendly solution. The birds most likely to feed on the calorie-rich suet-based fat mix are blue tits, great tits, long-tailed tits, coal tits, nuthatches (if you’re lucky enough to have them in your area), starlings and great-spotted-woodpecker. Our Coconut Halves come complete with a string already attached to them, so can be easily hung from a branch or from a bird feeder station.

Our birds really like these coconut halves. It doesn't take them long to polish them off, so they must be good. Proof in the pudding and all that. In these days of staying in we have noticed that we have a resident mouse that must live behind the shed. He likes them too. He diligently picks up all the pieces that drop to the ground.

I love your coconut halves, because the birds love them, especially the small birds. However the Great Spotted Woodpecker loves them too, which is fine! but the Jackdaws do too!! Not so good. So now I also put out the Suet balls in the cage, which the Jackdaws prefer, because it is easier for them to get a hold of the cage rather than the half coconut! So every one is happy! me included!

The robins, blackbirds, thrushes, starlings LOVE these coconut halves! We hang them on the bird feeders as well as from the trees and a variety of birds return repeatedly for their tasty treat. Buy in bulk since you won't be disappointed with the quantity of birds that love these coconut halves and you can keep replacing the empty shells to keep your birds happy.

Had two halves hung on a tree. By the following morning both had disappeared as the 'hoodies' got hold of them (hooded crows). Haven't put anymore out yet. Will put more out when I found a way to deter the crows!

The birds love them, woodpecker, all the variety of tits and especially the starlings who are now regular visitors to my garden as a result. There is a problem with the string holding the coconuts as other reviewers have also mentioned - it breaks ending up with them on the ground or carried off by the fox. I have solved this by adding florist's wire. My main criticism is the amount of plastic covering each coconut - now 2 layers. I appreciate the need to keep them from damage in transit but perhaps straw would be possible instead of the un-recyclable plastic?

The squirrels had worked out how to chew through the rope hanging loop but I now smear the loop with chilli powder before hanging it up and they now leave it alone. The blue tits and long-tailed tits are the most frequent visitors to the coconut halves.
