Our Flutter Butter feeder is a type of peanut butter feeder for birds, designed especially to hold Flutter Butter pod.

Flutter Butter is a peanut butter made with garden birds in mind. It is salt-free and does not contain any additives, including added refined sugar. While peanut butter is good for birds (and many species love it) human-made brands often contain these additives. Excess salt in particular can be bad for birds, which need to stay hydrated, particularly during hotter seasons. Unnaturally salty foods can easily dehydrate birds, especially if eaten in large quantities as is often the case with peanut butter.

This bird peanut butter feeder is easy to use and inexpensive. Simply screw in the Flutter Butter pod, and attach the supplied chain. You can then hang the feeder on tree branches, hedges, feeder stations and feeder poles. Birds can easily access the feeding port and the peanut butter, and the design of the feeder means the eating process is less messy.

FAQ Title 1

Is it safe to feed birds peanut butter?

FAQ Content 1

Many species of birds love peanut butter. It provides key nutrients, such as protein and fat and is a very high-calorie food, which makes it a perfect addition to Winter bird food selections.

However, peanut butter made for humans contains additives that are unhealthy for wild birds -- including added salt and refined sugar. As well as this, the excess oil in these varieties can damage birds’ plumage.

Flutter Butter -- our recommended bird-friendly peanut butter brand -- is certified as safe for birds. It is salt free and contains no excess oil.

FAQ Title 2

How do you hang peanut butter for birds?

FAQ Content 2

Hanging peanut butter feeders, like a Flutter Butter feeder, is simple. This feeder comes with a chain which you can easily attach to the base. This allows you to simply loop it over tree branches or poles on feeder stations and feeding poles.

Alternatively, this kind of peanut butter bird feeder can also be attached straight onto walls or fences, should you prefer. You can hang peanut butter for wild birds in any space around your garden where they can easily access the feeding port.

FAQ Title 3

Do squirrels like peanut butter?

FAQ Content 3

Squirrels are fond of many bird foods, including peanut butter. They will readily eat this if they are able to access it. To stop squirrels getting to your peanut butter feeder, you can attach a squirrel baffle to the bottom of feeder poles and stations. This stops them from being able to grip and scale the pole.

Alternatively, if you are hanging your Flutter Butter feeder from a tree or hedge branch, you can buy attachable squirrel-proof cages to attach around the feeder. This allows small birds to slip through the bars and eat the peanut butter, while stopping squirrels from accessing the food.

FAQ Title 4

Where to put your peanut butter feeder for birds

FAQ Content 4

As with all bird feeders, it’s important to place peanut butter feeders in areas where birds feel safe. Try to place it in a position where birds simultaneously have some coverage (such as leaves or branches) but still have a full view of the area while they feed.

Avoid placing feeders near busy roads, or in areas where there is a lot of human activity -- such as near entrances for example.

This is our first experience of Flutter Butter. The feeder and the containers are all sturdy and easy to use but so far the clients are a little wary of it as the other seed feeders are familiar and evidently considered safer at present. The tits have made a few visits so things look hopeful. Human angle rating would be 5 but so far the birds are not registering their vote.

Nice design and great to watch the birds feeding. Unfortunately, we have a lot of starlings and they finish off one whole pot of contents within an hour. I wish there was a way of saving the feeder just for the little birds. Even my robin had a go.

Thought I'd try this out but wasn't prepared for how much the birds like it. No actually they love it. Starlings come away from it with beaks covered in it and the smaller birds go right inside the container as it empties and get where the others can't.
