The Ring Pull Seed Tray is a great accessory for the Ring Pull range of feeders, and allows garden birds who normally favour feeding on the ground such as Robins, to also use the feeder as the tray acts as a platform for them to stand on. The tray also greatly reduces the amount of seed and seed husks which drop to the ground, though it’s vital that waste is not allowed to build up on the tray, as this will lead to a build-up of harmful bacteria. Orders for Live Mealworms are sent directly from our supplier via Royal Mail. They are dispatched the same day if orders are received by 12pm Mon-Thurs; no orders are dispatched on a Friday. Please allow four working days for orders to arrive.

This is the second one of these that I have ordered, I usually put out 2 seed feeders at a time. I have found that they stop a lot of the mess/chewed seeds accumulating underneath the feeders.

This new shape tray has a slightly higher side and slots instead of holes, which should avoid the problem of blocked holes. I have only had mine a couple of weeks but so far I am very pleased with it.
An issue with normal hanging tube feeders, is that ground feeding birds struggle to use them because they can’t easily cling to perches. It’s less of an issue with feeders which have round perches rather than straight, as species such as Robin can stand on these. However, Blackbirds can’t. A solution is a circular tray which fits to the base of the feeder, such as this Ring Pull Seed Tray. The seed tray for bird feeders then acts as an easy platform for ground-feeding birds to stand on, and therefore they can take food from the feeder ports or directly from the tray.
The product also acts as a seed catcher for bird feeders, and also as a bird seed mess catcher. This means less seed and waste on the ground below the feeder, but it’s very important to note that waste should not be allowed to accumulate on the tray which must be regularly cleaned. This is because bacteria will form as the seed waste starts to decompose, with this potentially leading to Salmonella poisoning which is fatal to birds.
Do bird seed catchers work?
They do work and are very effective at catching seed and seed waste, plus also allowing ground feeding birds to access the feeder, as species such as Blackbird can use the tray as a platform. The only other point to note is that it’s super-important to keep the tray clean to prevent harmful bacteria taking hold in the seed waste.
